Q: What are the costs of counseling?
A: Fees vary from individual to individual and are based on several factors. Some of these factors include length of session, contracted fee agreement between provider (counselor) and insurance companies, and provisions within the insurance policy. Many local employers offer cost free Employee Assistance Programs where counseling services can be accessed with no out of pocket expenses on a limited basis. For those without insurance or with no counseling coverage or benefit, each of our professional counselors can work with you in the setting of fees that are affordable for you. Every effort is made to make sure you have access to the counseling you are seeking. Our office staff works diligently to assist you in determining what, if any, benefits you have within your medical insurance policy.
Q: What’s the difference between “counseling” and “Psychotherapy” (or ” therapy” for short)?
A: In short, nothing. The two terms are used interchangeably for the most part, but typically refer to the process of talking to a mental health professional to solve either short-term problems or long-term patterned behavior that may have begun in childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood and has an impact on current functioning. As mental health professionals, we typically don’t concern ourselves with the technical differences in the terms and we don’t care if people call us “counselor” or “therapists.” We simply want to help others in any way we can!
Q: What is Christian Counseling?
A: Christian Counseling is clinical psychotherapy that allows you to utilize your faith and the power of Jesus Christ to address mental health issues. Christian Counseling assumes that psychology is not the cure for our issues, but is useful in assessing, understanding, and coping with them. According to John 8:32, it is the truth of God that sets us free from our struggles, and in John 14:26 we find that the Holy Spirit is our true Counselor.
